Well, actually it was more like them screeching in agony as if a blowtorch was being applied to 50 of them at once. I refer of course, to the most perfect automotive sound I have ever heard - the sound of an Aston Vanquish being tortured by having whatever clever electronic equivalent there is of dumping its clutch at 7000rpm in a tunnel in front of me (and soon waaay in front of me) this week. Lamborghini, Ferrari, step aside, for you make tractors and sewing machines (respectively) in comparison. Think of a 360 Modena sound combined lovingly by a master composer with the sound of a Diablo, extracting the best wailing (360) and thunder (Diablo) sounds they can muster.
Err, anyone have another nomination?

I couldn't really say that could even begin to imagine what a Vanquish sounds like - until today that is.
I've past a 00 V8 Vanquish every morning for a while now, and for the first time today I heard her fired up. OMG, what a majestic sound. I could feel the ground tremble all around it. My whole body reverberated in harmony with the beast. My heart was stolen, my head left dizzy. I have heard many a fast car roar past. A trip to Cannes/Monaco for the F1 being ultimate performance car show for me. But on a small tranquil Dublin side street, it all came back for a moment.
I can't even begin to imagine what she's like to drive. And I don't think for one moment the lucky owner would give me a quick spin at the wheel. No. All I can do is look and listen...and watch those lottery numbers and dream.
