Did anyone see watchdog last night? They were talking about how at least 1 in 4 peugeot 406s, from around the 98 model to the brand new one, have a defect in the boot lock which can allow a theif to get the boot open in a matter of seconds with just their hands!

Peugot UK denied any knowledge of this defect, but it was found out that in France, thier was a statement in June/July about the defect and a call for owners to bring their cars to their local dealers for a free modification to the boot lock.

Pretty scary for 406 owners and very embarassing :embarass: for peugeot!

I wonder will the Irish Peugot Dealers follow the French and fix the defect. (id say they will probally follow the British and do nothing:mad: )

Does anyone here drive a 98 onwards 406?

Its a worry to hear that Peugeot sent a letter to all affected 406 owners in France, but had done nothing in the UK. This only came to light over the BBC watchdog investigation after many people had reported the security flaw. Apparently a lot of people have had expensive goods stolen from their boots without any sign of a break-in.

Doesn't say much for their Aftersales customer care program, IMHO.

Has anyone heard if the recall has been made in Ireland yet? Or have the Irish 406 owners been left with insecure boot locks?
