Can you clay a new car?
Should I polish before Wax?

Thanks

Mike

Are there some contaminates on the paint surface that would lead you to think that you would need to clay?

If so, what are the contaminates, ferrous oxide particles (rail/brake dust is the commonly misused term), paint over spray, alkaline deposits?

Despite what we manufacturers would have you believe, there is always the possibility that claying will produce some nasty micro marring of the clear if not done correctly.

Wash the vehicle, dry it and then take the cellophane wrapper off the outside of a pack of cigarettes and "lightly feel" the paint.

While it will not feel completely smooth, the cellophane should allow you to feel if there are some "really" rough feeling particulate matter sticking to the paint.

If you feel them, then obtain a microscope, at least 10X, better yet is a 30X lighted that Radio Shack used to sell, and look at the particulate matter, see what it is.

Very true.

There should be no need to clay so soon. With a good wax used regularly, it will greatly reduce the need to polish so only cross that bridge when you get to it - perhaps a very light polish in 12 months time but see hos it goes.

Nice to see you visiting again, Ketch. I tried to have you barred but I wasn't allowed!!! LOL!

;)

Brian.

I had thought that by now I would be headed over to the UK to work with the guys that want to distribute.

We have not heard anything from them since they had to opt out on coming over a couple of months ago..

Once we get a distributor over there, I will be making a visit for a couple of weeks and plan on coming up to the Emerald Isle and share a couple of pints with you.

I would certainly look forward to that, Ketch. Make sure you stay in touch. I'll drop you a mail during the week anyway.

Take Care,

Brian
