Is 3M SMR suitable for routine yearly polish on quite good-condition finish? Or should I use it for removing fine scratch and use another fine polish for routine?
In other words, is it too hard or abrasive for routine use?

Just be sure and give your car a really good washing before using either.
Get off as many surface contaminates as you can, I spend some time in your city on business each year and know the air pollution.
I usually stay out at the Marriott River Resort and Spa, nice hotel.
Anyway, it bonds to the surface and if you don't get it off before you use a polish, may make worse marring than you already have.
Sort of like "sanding" the paint.
After you wash, take the cellophane wrapper off a pack of cigarettes, put your three middle fingers in it and gently feel the paint surface.
If you feel a lot of "bumps", that is pollutants that are embedded in the clearcoat or topcoat.

Actually 3M is a brand that I have never tried. Don't see it that much here - unless I'm looking in the wrong places......
