I have a problem with my 92 (K) Astra SRI. When I brake, the pedal is quite firm but if I keep my foot on the brake after about 3-4 seconds, the pedal depresses a further 4 inches or so and then firms up again at the bottom of the pedal travel. I can pump the brake and it will return to being stiff at the top, but again, if I keep my foot on the pedal, it depresses about four inches before firming up again. If it was air in the system I would have expected to notice the sponginess as soon as I brake. I haven't noticed any loss in fluid. I thought it may be the vacuum servo unit, or the non return vale linking to the inlet manifold. Do you have any idea's?
