Hi everybody.

I have a Ford Escort 94 and the heater blew up. I already bypassed the heater to stop the leaking of the antifreeze. I am trying now to replace the heater core but I have a question. in order to remove the entire heating unit (the one that has the heater core attached to it) do I have to strip the entire dashboard?.

I removed the instrument panel (where the stereo and the heater controls are), and I can see the heating unit, the only problem is that there are 3 nuts I have to unscrew, but I got only one (the one near the gas pedal) and the other 2 are on the top of the unit I believe. I do not have access to those nuts and I cannot find a way to remove them.

Any suggestions?, tips?. I do not have the money right now to pay the mechanic (500 dlls!!) and the winter is coming... please help!.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Egas,

One way maybe to get around your problem, is to buy the Haynes - Ford Escort & Orion (Sept 90 - 00) manual. They show you how to repair any part of the car with detailed pictures. Very good book.

It will cost you around £15 sterling.

Here is a link to their site.

Hope that helps.
