Burning Oil

I have a 96 Montero SR that tends to have a lot of smokey exhaust, and I frequently monitor the oil and have to add a quart of oil maybe every 400-500 miles. What are my options?

Let's see, well your best option is to have a qualified mechanic change the rings for you. But that's also the most expensive option other than buying a new car.

One quart per 400 to 500 miles is a lot, even by a chainsmokeer's standards !!!

You can try and get some of that super thick, "No-Smoke" stuff but I doubt that will help at this point.

Are you the first owner of the car? if so, my guess is you're a little bit heavy footed. Best way to avoid that (with a non-smoking engine of course) is to take it easy on the gas pedal when that light turns green ;)
