View Full Version : Car Shaking over 60mph
Hey all,
Small Problem, car starts shaking over 60mph - haven't a clue what's wrong with it(nissan pulsar).
Any ideas let me know.
Thanks
Ali
Hi Ali,
When you go over 60mph, is it your steering wheel that shakes?
If so, it might be a tracking problem or wrong tire pressure.
yep the steering wheel shakes also...tyre pressure is ok.
Thanks for quick reply

Could be your Trackin and balancing ..
It sounds a lot like a tracking problem. You won't notice it much at lower speeds, but once you get to the higher speeds it makes the car feel like it really shaking, as you are getting all your feedback through the steering wheel.
It can be caused by your wheel hitting a curve or dropping into a pothole at higher speeds. The little weights come off your wheels, and they are no longer balanced.
A quick test to try, while driving in a straight line, is to take your hands off the steering wheel, and see if the car pulls noticeably to one side. If it does, get your tracking done.
After that, I'm not sure what it could be.
BTW
Getting the tracking and balancing done, is very cheap and can be done within a hour. I'd try that first to see if it solves your problem.

It could also be caused by worn out shocks. What years is your Nissan? how many Kms/Miles on it?
If your shock absorbers are shot, they'll fail to absorb the vibrations from the road.
However, as Phil suggested, I'd do the tracking and balancing before I'd go any further.
One simple way to check for worn out shocks, is to grab a hold of the front fender (driver and passenger side seperately) and pushing the car up and down as violently as you can. (now this may sound funny but it actually works!)
Then see if the body comes back to it's orininal position immediately or if it continues shaking (even for a moment)
If it continues shaking, then it's probably time to replace those shocks!
Good luck
