Anybody out there have an opinion on these regarding driving, insurance, tax and fun?

Hi salty,
just wondering what you mean by a 'crewcab'? Is that just another name for a pick-up, like Ford's new Ranger (see http://www.eforecourt.com/body.htm/pid/534/catagory/feature)
If so then I can really see them becoming more and more popular. IMHO they have a very butch reputation, which is all down to how they are portrayed on American TV shows.
Another important plus point too - they are classed as a commercial vehicle, so you can go to town on a large diesel engine and not have to pay the associated punitive road tax. :)
Do you own one yourself?

Hi Whiplash,
Yes, crewcabs are pickup trucks but with an extra row of seats in the cab. good looking machines which can be practical also.
I don't own one at the moment but I am looking for one.

So any idea what make/model you are interested in getting? What type of price would you be talking about?
Would you get one thats simply open at the back (not very suitable in this country IMHO), or one that has the complete cover? Is there much of a price difference between the two?

Hi Whiplash,
I'm not sure yet. I've been looking at Some Mitsubishi L200's (various years) mostly imports. Imports are usually in excellent condition while the Irish cars are not great.
I have also seen some fully loaded Nissan imports. Nice clean cars with everything. But I am leaning towards the Toyota Hi-Lux.
Very basic but fun to drive and a real workhorse if that's what you need.
Generally the covers are fitted by the owner and are extra. I would like to get one without the cover and build one out of chequer plate.
