G reg metro cuts out and doesn't go above 50

Hi, Was wondering if anyone could help?

I have a G reg metro that will occasionally cut out when you stop (e.g. at traffic lights). I have discovered that pulling the choke out just before I stop, prevents this from happening. However, since i started doing this, it will no longer go above 50 no matter how much you press on the acclerator.

Is it a lost cause??

Joking aside, your problem may be a vacuum leak (air getting into the engine) possibly from the oil filler cap. The other possibilities may be the HT leads or the distributor (if fitted).
