Does anyone know what the story is with speedometer being changed over. My girlfriend brought a car recently with the speedometer having being changed. She has the old speedometer which is the mileage on the NCT form - Had to be changed due to the old one not working. Should she have some paperwork with it? How does this affect selling on the car in the future?

Hey DaDude, thats a very good question!!

Where did your GF buy the car - off a dealer or was it a private sale? And who did the work - a main dealer?

And what mileage does the new one show? Was it calibrated to start at the old ones mileage?

She bought it of a Used Car Dealer. The old mileage was mid 60s with the new one mid 50s. The car currently shows the new mileage.

Sounds like it’s an analogue display?

I’d imagine that its genuine enough. I’m sure that if the dealer were up to no good then they wouldn’t have gone as far as they have with giving you the old speedo and the NCT cert matching.

So, apart from the dealer notifying you of the change, is there any other way to tell that the speedo has been changed? If not then I wouldn’t worry about selling it on – as its so minor, I don’t see the point in mentioning it to any future potential buyers. And it least if you do have to, then the works been carried out by a company rather then an individual.
