Well its very cold outside so that might contribute to the problem. My car would be running for a few minutes and when i shut it off its making the same sound as if i were trying to start the car. The key would be in the off position and i would have to turn it back on to start the car again and shut it off. This has happened a couple of times. My car is a 97 grand am gt with 90,000 miles. Thanks

Ok steve,
You'd have to be a little more specific.
-what kind of a noise is this? is it a screeching noise? a grinding noise?
-why would you have to turn it back on and shut it off again? doesn't the engine shut off the first time you move the key to the OFF position?
-Does it only happen in cold weather or is it always there and it gets worse on cold days?
If it's a grinding noise, I would guess the starter is not dis-engaging after it starts the engine. A screeching noise could be any number of different things like belts etc...
Anyway try and give us some more specific answers
Cheers

OK ill try to be more specific about the problem...the thing is when the key is in the off position thats when the car makes the noise, right when I turn off the car...the noise it makes is the same noise as if someone with a bad battery were tryin to start their car, i really cant explain the noise to well but picture someone with the key turned all the way tryin to start their car and when thats happening theres a natural noise a car makes right before it goes on, which is the same as mine only i turned it off.
