AnyoneCan anyone give me an idea of what a respray on a peugeot306 would cost? I just don't want to seem like a twit when I ring around. Whats the best and worst price anyone has paid for respray and where?

Best way would be to go out and shop around pal. I mean I can give you some idea of what the prices are where I am but that's probably of no use to you. You can get a respray for equivalent to around 300 euros here in SoCal or a custom paint job for 10,000. So best and worst price doesn't really mean much, lol
But considering it's a Peugeot 306 and your use of the word "TWIT", I'm assuming you're in the UK and I'd have no idea what they charge for a respray over there, but I imagine there are no 300 pound paint jobs over there...
Maybe one of the fellas around here can help you out .
Cheers !

I agree with rivolette. Your best bet is to pick up a copy of the Golden Pages and phone around the varies different garages/panel beaters in your area. Note that not all main Peugeot dealers will necessarily have their own body shop to do the respray. Some of the smaller dealers will sub contract the work out to established quality body shops, while, I’d imagine, also adding in their own profit margin too. So if your decide to go with a Peugeot dealer, ask if they will be sub-contracting the work out, and if possible to whom – if they divulge who does their work then you might be able to bypass them and go straight there yourself and save a couple of Euros in the process.
When you phone around, ask each time whats involved in the process. You’re sure to pick up a few hints and tips along the way as to how the job should or shouldn’t be done. After a few calls you’ll have a better idea what to be asking regarding the process used by each individual place.
As a respray is such a big job, you’ll probably want to go with a reputable place. Make sure they are members of the SIMI, where you’ll have some form of recourse if you are unhappy with the service you get. Also ask how long of a guarantee you’ll get on the respray, and get that in writing too.
So what part of the country are you in anyway? And why would you need a respray on a 306?

I worked as a spray painter for 6 years, and I would say to you - Be sure of the bodyshop that are doing the job, as a bad job will destroy the car, in terms of looks, and resale value.
Also, I wonder does it really need to be resprayed ?
I have seen people go looking for their car to be resprayed when a good T-Cut and polish would have transformed the car for very little money !
Price wise, expect to pay about €400 for a quick "spray over" job, and €1000plus for a respectable job.
Don't rule out small bodyshops in favour of a larger garage, as many small operators depend on their reputation for repeat business.
Ask around locally, mechanics, motorfactors, car clubs, etc. for recommendations.
Good Luck,

I heard that Dennings near the Spawell, Templogue is a very reliable place (heard that just today, actually)
There's a guy near the Hole in the Wall pub that my family have used now and then and it seemed like a good value job. Devlin's is the name there. Both in the Golden Pages.
Don't know how much a complete respray will be. Will you let the rest of us know. Its a good peice of info to have.

I have had first hand experience of Dennings after a careless tyre fitter damaged a door panel on a previous car that I owned.
The work they did, although adamantly not a huge job, was absolutely perfect. I wouldn’t exactly say they are cheap though. I suppose it’s a case of you pay for what you get.

I went to them when I had a bit of damage to the BMW. They were charging crazy money for the amount of work needed to fix the car.
If you have the money, go to these guys, otherwise look somewhere else.
What are the implications of changing the colour on yor car? i.e. tax, insurance etc
Is their a charge from the tax office if you change the colour of your car?

Good point Phil.
If you change the colour then your Vehicle Registration Cert will have the incorrect colour stated on it. I assume there is contact information on the Cert if any of the details change.
You’d also want to notify your Insurance Company. Might not make any difference to the policy, but you don’t want to unknowingly invalidate it all the same.
Does the Tax Disc also have the colour of your car on it?

You should really tell the Tax office that you've changed the car color but most people don't bother.

That's a interesting one Junior. If you do nothing, does this mean, that if you get stopped at a garda checkpoint and your tax disc says that you car is blue and you got it sprayed red, will you get fined and get points against your licence?
