Hi, when I was washing and polishing my car yesterday, I came across a problem. It seems that my car had "static"
You know, it attracts DUST ! Like when you put your hand near it, your hair will be attracted to the car. Is there anyway to remove off this "static" from the car? Is this normal?

Then this morning I found my car covered with little white specks of dust that seems to be the residue of yesterday waxing session. How would you recommend to remove off these dust.
By wiping, will it scratch the car as I will be dragging the dust over my car paintwork.
Any better methods to suggest?

Thanks.

See my last post in nice new car help - similar thing I think - although I didn't notice anything until after the car had been out on the roads - I used the Maguiars ultimate wipe - not sure if it has any anti static properties but this may has lessened my problem - although after 20 mins drive the car was covered.

Perhaps one of those household anti static cloths could be the answer -

Where oh where is Bryan - HELP......

I just wonder .. if you use a wipe and bring it across the car paint .. won't it drag the dirt across and scratch the paint?

Just remember that Brian (note the spelling, its not Bryan! ;) ) is the owner of a professional valet company. As such he gets to answer these posts whenever he gets a minute to spare.

But don’t despair, I’m sure he’ll drop by at some stage to help you all out with his professional advice. :D

Is it a soft 100% cotton cloth?

I use that to buff off the wax then follow up with a Micro-fibre towel to shine it up a little better and get rid of any white powder. (Although the micro-fibre is not cotton, it is actually soft enough to use without harming paint, and is a little better than cotton - just more expensive).

The powder shouldn't scratch the paint. Its too light really - think of how much is on the cloth as you buff the wax and nothing happens there.

I actually don't have an answer for the static as I haven't had the problem!! Give a me a day or two.

Do you happen to know why my car has streaks after I remove off the wax although I have left it to dry for about 20mins.

I am using a brand KIT paste wax. Wonder if it could be my wax problem .. there are streaks on the paint and I have to rub real hard to get it off ...

Yes I am using a 100% cotton cloth ... at least that is what the label says lolz... tried reading on how to test it but to no avail ... don't understand which flame I should get while burning the cloth :(

Brian - (sorry about the 'Y' before)

I used the meguiars terry towels to remove product and then their ultimate wipe to finish off

however my dust problem wasn't from the products but form the atmosphere - all i can think is that its static, indeed the dust particles on one of the doors had noticeably settled in vertical lines presumably from the way I had polished the car!

Your help much appreciated thanks

You can eliminate it by giving it a quick wash again.......

but I can see how that isn't really a good solution after all the hard work you just did.

Strange that the dust landed in lines.........

Oh well. Sorry I can' t be more help. Guess you'll have to put up with it. I'm sure the dust will blow off as you drive the car though.

Bon Weekend.

It could be attributed to a number of items, so here goes.
1. Uses a product that is more oil than substance of a wax/polymer content.
2. Is not allowing full cure of final product before wiping.
3. Wiping off in straight lines, rather than circular motion, and see #2.
4. Vehicle has replacement tires, some will create excessive static charge in the vehicles body. (was a common concern a few years ago on some Japanense brand new imports).
