HI FOLKS

this is my situation.

1st my car, a 97 honda civic coupe , 1.6iSR , its a sohc vtec. nice car,
anyway, i jump started her and now the fekin SRS (airbag) light stays on,

im told this is as simple ECU reset, can anyone shed light on this ? and how do i generate ECU fault numbers WITHOUT a honda computer gadget, im told you can short out something and look for a bulb flashing to get numbers?

if i take out the ECU reset fuse for 10 seconds, this apparently resets the air bag, etc, but how do i know if there is a problem with the airbag, (like a mojor problem, as opposed to a simple reset of ecu/??!! mmmmm)

im not paying about 100 euro to a honda garage to reset it.

ONCE ,the engine light (amber) stayed on, it was a fauly oxygen sensor........if its any help to anyone.

MY OTHER PROBLEMS....!!

staying with my car,

i was away in Australia a year :) and when i get back to my car, i found now the ABS light stays on!!!

this could be rust or something on the sensors on the tyres maybe? as car was not used for a year!!?

ALSO,

this is actually the main problem !!!!

MY BROTHER , while installing a blaukpunt cd radio, managed to blow it up while installing to his 1990, or 91 opel kadette

it was working ok in his work van, but speakers not work in his car, he probably shorted out something with the 12volts.

anyway, he blew the fuse in the stereo, and also

now the side indicator fuse BLOWS every time he uses them.....but when his old stereo (which is ok) is dis connected, the problem goes away

this look like a short? but where?!

ANY HELP PLEASE??!!

AND FINALLY.......

when i connected up the 12v and ground of the same broken cd unit to my honda coupe car, (after replacing fuse) to see if i t was working,

it never worked,

but now my car alarm is buggered...

it doesnt arm right, just makes constant buzzing sound, rather than the 2 'chirps'

any ideas what could have went wrong??

thats all i gotta say for now

i hope to get some feedback

and remember

MAKE LOVE, NOT WAR........

Eric

holy snappin' bananas!

Looks like you go a lotta problems there pal. Let me start with your Airbag light. If you do the ECU reset (which should be indicated in the vehicle's operating manual) and the SRS light goes off, there's a good chance that your airbags are not faulty, it's just a glitch in the computer chip.

But if it comes back on, then I'd get a qualified mechanic to look at it, and if I were you I'd bring it back to Honda for a chekup. Because the dealer is more familiar with the electronics in the car than some third party general mechanic.

Also, if you do take it to Honda and they fix it for you, should something go wrong in the future, you have bragging rights. You can go back to Honda and demand that they fix it as it is their work.

But a third party mechanic always comes up with an excuse as to why the problem he fixed a while ago, has resurfaced.

As for your stereo, it is REALLY difficult to diagnose, what with all the distance !!! :)

I purchased my '97 Honda second-hand. And, yes, my SRS light went on after jumpstarting the car. Unfortunately, I do not have an owner's manual. How do I do the ECU reset?
Thanks,
hip.:)

Oh that's a good question. I wouldn't really know that. every model has it's own procedure.

I'd go to the dealer's service department and ask their foreman.

As far as your brother and the stereo goes, it sounds like he mistakenly used the side indicator wiring when he was fitting the stereo.
This is easily done if you're not too familiar with vehicle wiring. On most Opel's, the Hazard warning lights switch is in the centre of the dashboard, it's quite possible that he has connected some of the stereo wiring to these cables which is causing his indicators to fail. Other than that, it's possible that he may have snagged some of these wires and they are now short-circuiting against the stereo's metal chassis.
The best way to fix this is to remove the radio and restore the wiring to the way it was before the radio was fitted. Then ensure all cables are insulated properly, use insulating tape if necessary. Then run new cables in from the battery and the ignition switch (make sure to use in-line fuses!!) directly to your radio. This way, the cars wiring loom is left undisturbed.
