Jeremy McWilliams (Aprilia) scored his first 500 podium, becoming the first Briton to make the 500 top-three in seven years. “I’ve tried hard all weekend, that’s why I crashed twice in practice,” said McWilliams, who raced his 2000-spec RSW500 for the first time. “The other bike had too much weight transfer on the brakes, that’s why I went down yesterday.”
McWilliams profitted from a rash of crashes; other fallers were Alex Barros (Honda), Garry McCoy (Yamaha) and World Champion Alex Crivillé (Honda).
