engine problem i think

I JUST GOT HOLD OF A VOLKSWAGEN JETTA H PLATE 1600cc THE CAR WILL NOT START I CHARGED THE BATTERY LIGHTS COME ON CAR WILL TURN OVER BUT WILL NOT START IT PUFFS N PANTS BUT WILL NOT FIRE I HAD A LOOK AT IT MYSELF BUT CANT FIND THE PROBLEM I CHECKED THE PLUGS N AM GETTIN A SPARK CARBS CLEAN ANY IDEAS PLEASE I NEED HELP

Hey John,

I know you have checked for spark, however, there still may be a problem with your distributor. You may want to have it checked out, also there's an electronic module in many models that is integrated into the distributor, that may be malfunctioning or completely burnt out. In which case you would need to replace that module.

If that electronic deistibutor modile goes, a lot of times the engine will turn, but there's not enough power to actually keep the engine going, therefore you can't start the engine. That's the first thing I'd check.
