I have a 93 Thunderbird SC, and ive been havin some problems with it lately. Right now the current problem is this. I can jumpstart the car perfectly and run it without any problems, but the battery will not catch a charge, i have let the car run for 30 mins but itll still be dead when i shut it off and try to start it again. any help?

second problem, if i turn it off after running it the first time and try to jumpstart it AGAIN the second time, it wont start and the car will just have the starter going reeer reeer reerr reeer and it wont start. any help here also?

Thanks greatly, Leigh

You say the car runs fine once it is jumped so it's probably not the alternator. If it were, once the car was running the lights would get dimmer and indicators on the panel would let you know about it. Since the car is starting with a "jump" it is probably either the battery itself or the charging system. Check the terminals aren't dirty or loose. If you can, get a voltmeter. While running, the battery should have a charge of around 14 volts or so. If the voltage is good you just need a new battery.

One question though, how many miles on it? Reason I ask (and don't take this too seriously) is that I've heard of a few of the T-birds needing new alternators and charging systems replaced between 90K and 100K miles. But I think those are the exceptions.

Lovely motor there BTW.
