View Full Version : Car theft!

Had an opportunity last night to think on the issue of car theft.

Was on the train home sitting near two young lads who were discussing how to get from the last station to their destination. Turns out the quickest and easiest way was to rob a car from station.

What really burned me was two things. The brazen, nonchalant way they were talking about it and the fact that no one else on the train seemed to care.

Now, I like my cars. They are not flash or really expensive but they are mine. If I got off the train some night and it was gone I would be heartbroken.

Not sure where I was going with this but just had to say it to someone.

In addition,

Since I get off at the second to the last station I was able to have a chat with the Gards before the train had even left the platform. They actually seemed interested.

Is that due to the fact that it was the same Garda that had caught you for speeding the other week? :p (only joking!)

Its a shame all right that such reckless thoughts run through peoples heads. And brazenly discussed in public too as if it was something that was totally ethical to do. I wouldn't be at all surprised to hear that they went ahead with their plans. They are just plain thugs that deserved to be locked up! :realmad:

I suppose all one can do is to ensure your car is as safe as you can make it. If parked at night, park it in a well-lit area on a main road. Get an alarm if you don't have one - especially if your car is an old model and doesn't have an immobiliser. Use a chain or similar steering lock around the steering wheel. Not much else you can do after that. And if they are professional car thieves and really want the car, then they'll get it one way or another. :(

Well I wasn't going to mention it, but, yeah it was.
