Ireland's speed limit to be increased to 120kph in 2004

Latest news has it that the speed limit on Irelands motorways will be increased to 120kph (74.5mph).

Plans are being made to harmonise our speed limits to the EU average. Speed limit signs will replaced by ones denoting the speed limit in kph rather than mph.

If a similar line were to be followed with other speed limits, then the national roads speed limits may also increase to 100kph, or 62.13mph.

The changes are expected to come into action around June 2004.

I was gonna post this yesterday. Not so much for the imparting of this information but the fact that the paper I read it in had it printed as "The national speed limit will be raised by 4.5 miles per hour to 74.5 MPH."

And we wonder why people don't know the rules of the road....
