Latest news has it that the speed limit on Irelands motorways will be increased to 120kph (74.5mph).
Plans are being made to harmonise our speed limits to the EU average. Speed limit signs will replaced by ones denoting the speed limit in kph rather than mph.
If a similar line were to be followed with other speed limits, then the national roads speed limits may also increase to 100kph, or 62.13mph.
The changes are expected to come into action around June 2004.
