I'm looking at buying a 00 Toyota Corolla. The Vehicle Registration form says it's 1398cc with no other lettering. When I pop the bonnet it has a VVTI 16 Valve engine underneath. The insurance company say that it can't be a straight 1.4 when I ask for a quote - they say it should be something like GS, LX, I, etc..... Any ideas what lettering should be given to the insurance company?

Cheers.....:)

To be honest, the lettering on the 1.4 Corolla won't mean any difference to the power of the car, only the level of spec - so I don't see why the insurance company is being so picky.

Anyway, to answer your question... As far as I know, there should only be 3 levels of trim (its the trim code they are looking for) for the Corolla. They would be Terra, Luna and Sol. This is denoted by a small badge on the back of the car. It will have a picture of earth (Terra), the moon (Luna) or the sun (Sol).

Thats as much as I know, and I'm 99% sure its correct and what you need to tell the insurance company.

Other than that, there is probably certain other aspects that would show you what model you have, like for example I think that the base model Terra may not have central locking. The Sol I think comes with alloys (and perhaps CD) as standard. Best to make a quick call to a Toyota dealership if in doubt.

BTW, all of these 3 models would share the same 16v 1.4 VVTi engine.

HTH.

Cheers for the response. Bought the car yesterday.
It's a Terra with central locking, electric mirrors & windows. It's also in the same insurance bracket as a Honda Civic.
