I have a 91 Golf and it has started to loss power and jerk along sometimes. It usually does this that the end of a trip and my battery and oil light comes on. This does not happen for very long and the car has only actually stopped once and restarted fine. What could be my problem and will I be able to fix it myself. I don't want to take the car in as I am sure they will find nothing wrong with it as it is not doing it all the time.

Tough call liddo, I'd have you checking the voltage output of the alternatior (usually should be 14 Volts) and also make sure the ignition timing is accurate (you will need tools for this).

Also there's an oxygen sensor in your engine that you need to check to make sure is working in orderly fashion.

Any other symptoms that you notice?

Not any that I can think of. I did have a problem a while ago where there was not enough voltage to the engine. This was a very rare problem (in fact just after I had packed the car to go on holiday!!!) The mechanic had to increase the voltage, do you think this may be causing the problem still?
