View Full Version : F1 points system – does it need an overhaul?
I think that the FIA need to seriously look at the points system that they have in F1. IMHO, giving points to the first six teams is not enough. They should broaden the points system, and stretch it out to say the first ten finishers. That would mean a better mix of points scored pro-rata. The smaller teams would then have a better chance of scoring more points, and hence try harder to finish rather then simply being backmarkers struggling around the track while being lapped constantly by the front-runners. It would also mean that teams who run a reliable car and have both cars constantly finishing would clock up more points for their efforts. Doesn’t that sound fairer?

Good Point,
That sounds like a good idea.
I also think that they should give points for Pole Position & the fastest lap of the race.
Now your talking Tony. That sounds like a great idea to me. So even if a team did'nt do too well, they might still pick up a point or two. Nice little system or the smaller teams.
Now who do we email to pass on this great idea?????
A quick question for you guys. Is there a limit on the amount of teams or cars racing in F1?
Cheers Phil.

Yes Phil,
There is a limit of 12 teams allowed in Formula One nowdays.
At the moment there are only eleven competing but Toyota join up next year or the year after.
This rule was imposed to get rid of the ridiculous pre-qualifying which had to take place in the late eighties & early ninties because there were too many teams.
Sometimes there were up to 36 cars trying to qualify for a Gp.There were only 26 allowed to race and 28 allowed to try & qualify.
So 1st to try and qualify about 4 teams had to pre-qualify.
