Electrical problems?

I drive a 1997 Mondeo LX. Recently the speedomoter dial will cease to operate momenterally while I am driving. Is there a problem developing, what could the causes be and what is the recomended remedy? All help appreciated.

Ok, let's see. When your speedometer ceases, does your odometer stop counting also?

If that's the case, it could be that your speedometer cable OR the gear that runs it (located in the tranny box) is shot.

But if your speedometer needle is ceasing yet the odometer is counting regularly, the problem could be your speedo head is faulty, which means youd have to change it. Those things tend to get expensive.

But make sure that is the case first. It could just be as simple as the cable or the gear in the tranny box.
