The Megane is pulling a dicky on me. Every now and again when I go to apply the brakes the pedal will depress slightly (less than an inch) and it feels like the brakes apply less than they should. If I release and reapply the pedal goes to where it should and the brakes apply properly. It feels like the power braking just cuts out for a second. It's kind of annoying to me but it's freaking my wife (main driver) out. With good reason too 'cause on the roads she drives when you need your brakes, you really need them...

I'm bringing it in to have it looked at but was just wondering what to expect. Any ideas?

Sounds a lot like your booster may be malfunctioning. That may result in you having to change it completely (in most cases anyways)

Good luck

Booster? WTF is that? I think they just keep coming out with different names to confuse me.

But the story is...

I had it in with the mechanic. Spent about five minutes trying to describe the symptoms of this "intermittant" fault and saw him giving me the same look I give customers when the describe similar faults with their computers. He drove around for about 15 mins with no result (I knew that was gonna happen), came back and checked the whole braking system. Ended up draining the lines. "If it was an air bubble, it's gone now." he said. Fair enough. I'm gonna feel like a crash test dummy on the way home tonight...

On a side note. If anyone here at eforecourt wanted to do a driver profile of a regular type guy, they should talk to the sales guy there. He drives a Porsche 911 twin turbo 4WD. That thing is smokin'....

Ok so maybe he's not such a regular type guy....

His reg wouldn't happen to be 00 D 911 by any chance? Or perhaps thats a Carrera I'm thing of...

Following up from before....

Had to bring it back cause the problem kept happening. They kept it in a few days as they could find nothing. (ended up driving a Clio for a few days). They got the guy from Renault Ireland to come out and take a look at it and they found that the car had missed a recall that had to do with a line that ran from the servo to the brake pedal. (only happened in the late '99 models). Changed the line and works like a charm now.

On one hand its good to hear that Renault went to so much trouble to diagnose the problem, but on the other its worrying that they missed the car for the recall problem. One wonders how many others were missed? And not just by Renault, but by all manufacturers. That is when they take it onto themselves to recall that is!

Good to hear that they sorted out the problem in the end anyhow Friz, although I hope that they didn't charge you for fixing this?

Ah geez no. No charge. It's was all under warrantee anyway. (If it had been something else). I was a bit miffed that it had missed a recall but more relieved that they actually found a problem. (I'm hoping the problem they fixed actually was related to the problem I was having). So far so good. And I'll tell ya something else. The '04 Meganes are in the showrooms. Now that is a sharp looking car....
