I,ve got a Rover P5b '69 in need of restoration. Body is sound but the engine needs a complete overhaul. Anybody got any suggestions where / how I can get it restored ?

Paschal, you're in luck! The P5b's have the good old trusty 3,5 litre buick engine, which is used in plenty of later cars, most notably the Range Rover. Now as it happens the trend with the Range Rovers (I know because I drive one) is that owners tend to strip out the petrol engines and slot in a Diesel! That's why it shouldn't be too hard to find a replacement engine.
I service my car at Mobile Motors Ltd. in Wicklow. Contact Brendan King and mention my name, and ask whether he is able to help you out. If you don't want to discard the original engine, and you are looking for an overhaul. He should be able to give you a good price.
Let me know how you get on!

Paschal, apologies, completely forgot to put his number in the posting. It's 0404-68315

And Skid Marks, I take it you had some bad experiences with the old P5B's Rovers, or with Classic Cars in General ;)

I think so too.
Although, I must admit Rover did make a few atrociously bad cars in the seventies! Although I generally like the styling of the SD1 3500's, the build quality of these cars was absolutely dreadful.
According to the designer, he used styling cues from the Ferrari Daytona to come up with the front end.
The only SD1's that are still worth a bit of money nowadays are the Vitesse models. Though reliabilty is still a problem on them...
