Hi,

Recently my 96 model 306 Turbo diesel is having starting isssues, most days it starts first time with not effort, others it cuts out after its started and more and more its just refusing to start. I've replaced the glowplugs and not really noticed the difference. I'm not sure if its connected but I feel its lost a bit of power, the turbo seems slower to kick in. I've just had a new exhaust fitted, its fully serviced and I've even paid £200 for a new clutch(Irrelavent). Anyone any ideas ?

Check out the Clio diesel starting problems thread a few down from this.

I know bog all about diesels, so can't really help much.

By 'slower' with the turbo, do you mean it comes in at higher revs, or that it come sin at the same revs but not as strongly?

I'd say both to be honest, it lags more and isn't as strong

well, as i said, i know nothing about Diesels, but that sounds like a buggered turbo.

Either that, or you've got an exhaust leak between the engine and the turbo.

Then again, in these days of electronic controlled jiggery-pokery it could just as easily be a dodgy sensor somewhere! :)

Just wondering, what the Pug's current mileage?

Also, does anyone know what is the average life span (miles) of a turbo ? If both come close then it would certainly point towards the end of life of your turbo.

Depends on the turbo, the way it's been driven, the way its been maintained, etc.

If you leave it to idle for a minute or 2 before switching the enigne off, change the oil when you should and you don't have the bad luck of a duffer, then up to 130,000 miles.

Take away any/all of the above and it can plummet down to about 50-60,000 miles.

So if it's between 50,000-130,000 miles then it could be the turbo.

Although unless it's completely dead, not just slightly knackered, i can't see how that'd affect starting.
