I bought a 1993 Mazda MX6 last week from a registered Mazda dealer as a trade sale without a warranty, but had a free service. The car broke down yesterday. I was driving along the motorway when I lost power, pulled over and turned off the engine. The oil and battery warning lights came on as I slowed down. An AA guy looked at it and said the most likely cause is a snapped or misaligned cam belt. The engine ticks over on ignition but will not start. He tested the spark plugs, fluid levels & for any leakage, etc, but all was ok. I niticed a humming noise coming from the exhaust system (I think!) a couple of days previously. Also, I've been using an electric massage seat cover which may have drained the battery in transit (Could it just be the battery???)
If anyone has any ideas on what could be wrong before I take this for repair, it would be most appreciated. The car is the 2.5l V6 GT model (not an import) and I didn't expect to have any problems so early with an engine of this quality. There are 116,000 miles on the clock (varified.)
