Yep, way too hard - we just don't know our classic cars as well as you Paul ;) .

The red colour makes it look Ferrari'ish, but maybe its an old Rover?

Ah come on now Tony, this one's not hard at all!!
Think 1000 or 1200cc, Engine in the back !!! Definitly not a Rover...

It's kind of vital you park it in one, Justin!
Because if you don't, you won't have much left of the car, that's how quickly they disintegrate...

Smart thinking lads, but it's not only the Italians that know the art of corrosion... ;)

I think its clear we need another clue here....a substantial clue!!!

PaulKanters

You're right Becos!
The car is French, it was built from 1962-1967 in 1000cc form and from 1967-1971 in 1200cc form. You would find very few of these cars over here, but some of you might now it's little boxy brother (please note Boxy and not Poxy!!!) of which this car shares the engine and floorpan. It was the cheap boy racer/rally car of it's day...

Coincidence; I'm pretty sure I was looking at that car in a book a couple of days ago. If so, I'll have an answer later.

You said boxy, but maybe you meant "poxy", and if so is it a Simca??

PaulKanters

Sorry for not answering earlier Becos, but you're spot on! It is indeed a Simca.
I think the "poxy" boxy 1000 gave it away, didn't it.
However, that said I think the Simca 1200S as showed in the photograph was a very nice design as opposed to its boxy 1000 4 door brother. These boxy Simca 1000's were great little tearabout with interesting tailhappy performance to say the least. These cars were cheap and were really the boy racer "escorts" of their time. They even brought out a Rally version with two black striped over the back end and a matt black bonnet, anyone remember those?
Rust was the biggest killer of all Simca's so you won't see many of them around.

Excuse my ignorance, but I've never heard of a lot of these cars at all. I've no hope of guessing, ever! :( Maybe make the next one a little easier, and give some extra hints for the amateurs?
