I have a '94 fiesta freestyle that doesn't like uphill starts. a while ago it cut out on me leaving the underground car park. I thought that the engine had flooded and left it for a while but no joy. It would start to turn over and then cut out again. I have recently replaced the alternator (for a different prob.)and had someone give it a service as this has happened before. As I am not that mechanically minded does anyone have any ideas that can be explained in an idiot proof way????
Just need to clarify firstly.
Does it not like uphill starts as in clutch/gearbox/ drive problems or as in engine cutting out, which is what i think you are on about.
If so It sounds like a fuel/gravity problem and would suggest it is likely to be a fuel delivery problem as in fuel pump, fuel pipe or fuel filter. Would suggest replacing filter initially especially if you dont know how long current 1 has been on.
Also, how steep a hill does it have to be to affect car?

Thanks for the reply Tich.
Is there any quick test to see if it's the pump? I've heard that the pump in the '94 fiesta is located in the tank???
The hill is fairly steep out of the carpark, but the car only starts to cut out when started from cold.
