Hello

I have a VW Bora that has recently started shudder slightly when stopped. Its a 2000 with 40k. Clutch or gearbox on the way out? ore something else

When what's stopped?

The car or the engine?

If the engine's still shuddering after you've turned it off, you're suffering from what's known as Dieseling .... which is caused by the engine getting so hot it can ignite the remains of fuel in the cylinder without a spark plug.

Check your coolent levels, check your water pump & fan are working, check for whitish gunk in the oil filler cap.

No it just shudders when stopped with the engine on, it usually only starts to happen after a while, when the engine heats up

OK ... ignore my first answer then ... you weren't specific enough.

My best guess would be one of your spark plugs isn't too happy with life.

If you're gonna be changing 1 you might as well change the lot. They're not expensive.

Could also possibly be an HT lead .... though i don't think those are as affected by heat as a spark plug. For the extra £20 a set costs you might as well change them as well .... if nothing else it'd end up being something else you can rule out.
