Hey!
Im having problems with my renault clio (1994). I bought my car about 1 year ago and I have had no problems until two months ago. Every so often, when I try to start the car, the ignition lights all come on but the car does not physically start. Im not too sure what is wrong with it, it has recently been serviced and MOT and problem went un-noticed. After a push, the car starts and it will work fine for about two weeks and then it will stop working again.

I know it is not a problem with the battery as the lights work and ignition lights still work. Ive read in other problems, that it could be the starter motor. How much would this be to fix?
Thanks! :)

"but the car does not physically start"

Bit ambigous this .... do you mean the engine turns over, but does not start ... or that bugger all happens?

If bugger all happens and it's an intermittent problem, you've probably got a loose wire on your starter motor .... taking the wires off and giving the connections a good clean ... then reconnect them and make sure there's a solid connection.

If the engine turns over, but does not start, then that's a hole new can of worms that we'll get to if we need to. :)

Thank you so much for replying! I took the car to "another" garage, not my usual, and I think thats it fixed. The mechanic said its a common fault with clio's to have loose wires behind the starter motor. So he clean all the wires and tightened everything up. He also said the starter was in good condition.
And, it the problem was that the engine wouldn't turn over, therefore "it wouldn't physically start". hehe, I don't know much!
Thanks very much.
