Hi i was wondering if you could help me. I bought a '98 VW Golf but the only problem is that it too low to the ground. If i'm traveling on the back roads at abit of speed or if i have passangers in the car, the road hits off the undercarriage. Is there anything i can do to raise the car? Any replies greatly appreciated!

Most likely to be that your springs are knackered ... could possibly be your dampers ...

I'm not quite familiar with some of the lingo, but are "dampers" the same as "shock absorbers" ?

Hi You seem to think that theres a problem with your golf?

I will just run you through this,

Since the Golf 4 was Launched on Jan 1 st 1998 in Ireland, ( 97 in the rest of europe) It has been refined a lot from the Golf 3 some two thousand and 48 in fact, Along with the refinements are the softer suspension, You find that the car bottoms out very easy, if the back roads are very bad you must respect them because if you try and bend the rules of science then Death could occur, I have had golf 4's and respecting the way they are built the car was perfect, If you think that youre a bit of a driver then you need to invest in a Golf gti, if you cant afford one of these then dont drive yours like a gti.

The suspension of the gti differs slightly in the way that it has double acting shocks of equal resistance and stiffer springs, Ie the bump and rebound of the shock absorber would be fairly equal,

Youre car would have 30% bump and 70% rebound with an overall lower performance of the shock, this is why you find the car bottoming out ecause the bump is poor when land after a brow the shocks dont have the performance to keep your vehichle raised from the floor, Please note this is not a problem with the car, suspensions are very sophisticated systams and vw has designed the golf 4 suspension this way to maximise comfort in the car.

Please acknowlege if this advise is of any use to you, and by the way have look at my other ads on the forums.

Slan abhaile.
