Hmm, they give with one hand and take with another. :(
While they announced a reduction in the broadband rates yesterday, Eiccom today announced that they are looking for another hike in line rentals. The 7.5% hike suggested would take the monthly line rental cost to over €24 a month.
Mr McRedmond, Eircom's commercial director, stated that line rental charges were going up to help fund investment in a better telecoms system, including broadband.
So in other words everyone who owns a land phone in Ireland are now supplementing the reduction in broadband rates, which is currently being enjoyed by a massive 35,000 people!
One things for sure when it comes to Eircom - even with other operators offering packages such as a flat monthly price (BT), Eircom still have the monopoly on the line rental. :?
So now apparently we have the highest phone line rental charge in Europe. Thanks a million Eircom!
