Hi,

How do I go about replacing misplaced registration and licensing certificate? I have to tax the car and I can't find the little buggers. Also, on one of the certs, the description of the car is wrong, how can I change that because if I want to sell the car obviously this must be correct.

Thanks in advance,

Aileen

Aileen,

When I misplaced my reg. cert. all I had to do was report it as lost of missing at the garda station and then apply for a replacement at the motor taxation office. There is a nominal charge of €12 and you should be able to adjust the details when applying.

Thanks deeferduck,
Luckily I found them yesterday, tucked away neatly at the back of a press!! But now I know what to do if I do lose them for sure.
The car discribtion on the cert is different though, to the car I bought. The car I have is the red di 1.9td passat which is 130bhp, but the cert says it's a 110bhp which woud be the red i, which is right?

Aileen

Not to sure about this one to be honest. Who told you it was 130bhp in the first place? Has there been an engine change at some point? My humble opinion would be to get a VW mecahnic to put down on paper the exact details of the car. Of course, I could be way off. It has been known to happen.

Hi Aileen,

The 130 BHP TDi hasn't been around as long as the 110 BHP version. So my first question would be how old is the car?

My initial thoughts would be that the cert is actually correct, as this is an official document and would have to be as correct as possible. Perhaps the seller might have mentioned 130 BHP to make the sale more attractive?

Hi,
I found out why the cert was incorrect. The car I bought was an import (from the UK I guess) and from what I can gather from the garage, whoever brought it in stated that the car was 110bhp so they could pay the lower VRT. The garage were I bought the car took it back to be inspected again for VRT. I have now recieved the new type Licencing/Reg cert and it dosen't state what bhp the car has:confused:: . Ah well, you learn something new everyday!

Thanks to all who replied,

Aileen
