On June 2 at the beautiful Glen of the Downs Golf Course, Delgany, Co. Wicklow, the Dunlop Motorsport Ireland Benevolent Fund Golf Classic will be staged. This Par 71 18-hole course is one of the finest in Leinster and was built by motorsport enthusiast Michael Doyle, who has raced and hill-climbed with much success over the years. The sports charity GOAL is also associated with the day.

Michael Doyle has agreed to give special terms to the forthcoming Classic that will add to the very necessary Benevolent Fund as well as GOAL. By offering six hours of tee times (0930 - 12.30 and 13.30 to 16.30) it is possible to cater for 40 teams of four players, at the realistic cost of EUR500 per team. That EUR500 includes green fees for four and a wholesome meal at this superbly designed club.

It is hoped that motorsport itself will come to the support of the Dunlop MI Benevolent Fund Classic on Thursday June 2. The voluntary organising committee expect that each of the affiliated car and kart clubs will enter a team, and that at the same time the many other good friends of motorsport will help complete the field of 40 teams. We are also looking for tee and green sponsors and items for the auction.

The Benevolent Fund has done excellent work over the past six years. It has to be added to annually, because of the demands, and it is felt that a day's fun on Classic Day at the Glen of the Downs Golf Club, along with the Prize Presentation and Auction that evening with RTE's Michael Lyster as host, should add greatly to the fund, as well as providing some money for the GOAL Charity.

Please give this important project your support. We also need sponsors for each of the 18 holes - tees and greens, as well as prizes including the longest drive and nearest to the hole on a par 3.

Make this event something that motorsport - all branches - will be proud of, and if those who participate have a days fun on a beautiful golf course, all the better. Tee times may be booked through Jan O'Hara in the Motorsport Ireland offices.

Committee: Michael O'Carroll, Michael Lyster, Vincent Hogan, Ronan Morgan, Dermot O'Rourke and Alex Sinclair.
