Hi all,
I have a 98 corsa. Over the last two days the battery light has been coming on. intermitently primarily at low revs and the brightness of the light goes up and down. i presume its the alternator but im not sure as there was some wet around the bettery terminals which i dont think would cause it but im not sure. Any ideas appreciated?!

Dry up any moisture round the connections.

Also make sure all the connections are secure (not just the battery ones - also the alternator ones).

Also check to make sure the alternator drive belt is tight (using finger & thumb you can't twist it more than 90 degrees along the longest stretch of the belt).

If all those don't make any difference to the battery light coming on, then get a multimeter and read the voltage across the battery when idling with as few electrics on as possible (i.e. no lights, heater, radio, etc.) and again with every electronic device in the car switched on. Then repeat the test at about 3000rpm. That should tell you if your alternator is starting to give up the ghost.
