What would cause your fuel consumption to increase by 25% for two fills and then return to normal?

I normally get 450ish to a tank but the last to I've been getting 350ish. Latest fill looks like it's back to normal.

I presume you have electronic ignition and fuel injection. The causes is then most likely connected to these items (unless a bird nested for a few days in your intake :D )

A faulty sensor can have the engine run on "choke" even when warm.

A partially malfuntioning "brain" can work OK one mile then act up on the next.

A bad connector can screw up everything.

A fuel injector may have failed to close completely due to a bit of dirt.

Etc etc etc.

Unless it happens again, I wouldn't worry. If it returns, try to have the "brain" tested when it happens. Sometimes it shows up on the test instrument where the trouble is.

Sorry, didn't notice you had the rooster too, and I kind of got the understanding two couldn't share. I've changed mine now.

Basically, troubles like these can make you quite

Did you use different garages?? What I mean is, was the price different in the two garages ie. less petrol for the same amount of money. I know this is probably not the problem, but I just had to ask.
