I need advice.
My wife drives a Volvo and recently a little amber warning light has appeared on the dash.
It has a symbol of an accelerator pedal on it.
The Haynes manual makes no reference to this light and the actual Volvo manual just says bring it to your dealer.
I rang a few Volvo dealers who told me nothing accept I would have to leave it in to be checked but they are all too busy at the moment.
As this is only the family second car I don't want to spend hefty money on it.
The car is running perfect and there is no change in fuel consumption. The car was serviced recently though not by a Volvo dealer.
Any suggestions please.

This is a sure shot in the dark, but it sounds like it could be either due to worn brake pads, or maybe a low brake fluid level?
Were the brake pads replaced during your last service? Have you checked the brake fluid level?
(As usual, maybe I'm just talking pure sh!te here!)
If Eirik reads this then I'm sure he'd know what's wrong, he seems to be a bit of an expert when it comes to car maintenance, especially Volvo's.
Maybe BrianF/BeCos/Junior will be more mechanically minded then me, which btw wouldn't be hard.
Come on lads, give BallyFM a dig out here!

Thanks Whiplash but it's not brakes or anything like that because it has warning lights for all those kind of things.
The only consolation is that the colour of the light is amber which means it's not an immergency or safety related problem. The brakes etc are all red in colour.
It is something to do with the engine and my guess it would be concerning the fuel injection or calytic convertor.
As I said if anybody knows I would love to hear from them.
A friend of mine says he knows a small garage in Donabate where the guy served his time in Volvo so I am going to try and see if he can help.

Actually I live in Donabate and one of my buddies works for a Volvo dealer. I'll ask him what the story is and let ya know tomorrow. I reckon it has something to do with the CAT,the oxygen sensor or something like that. I wouldn't worry about it though.

Sorry, cannot offer any help on this one, except that it's either a sensor gone bad or it's trying to tell you something is bad/need service.

Hey Ballyfermotman,
Did you get it sorted?

Yes I did.
It was simply a little bit of dirt on the air intake.
The car has a self diagnostic panel and the mechanic knew instantly.
A cloth dipped in petrol and a quick wipe sorted it out.
Thanks for your help.

Thank God for that Ballyer we'd thought the Volvos brakes had failed and we'd lost a memeber there for a while :)
