View Full Version : JD Power and Volkswagen/Subaru

If only everything in life was as reliable as a Volkswagen - not!, according to JD Power
On the other hand, Subaru 1st and 2nd again.

But I wonder how accurate that JD power thing is. My wife had a Polo which was boringly boring and, oh yes, reliable too. I had a Subaru which was boringly able to trash everything else on the road short of a 911 and boringly reliable. So VW was OK to us.

What about your experiences?

Are there any eforecourt satisfied/dissatisfied customer comments?

I like the way they used a manure sprayer on the Vauxhall Sintra, the worst car :D.
Are there any cars you want to nominate for the e-forecourt manure sprayer?

Jesus Justin have you got cable internet access on your TV or what? You're just too God damned fast, I must be loosing my touch ;)

Well as you know I drive a 'boring' Megane. I did notice that the Renault logo got flushed down the can, but I've had no problems at all and the main dealer is fantastic (well I suppose I do know him. How's it going Jeff ;) ). Before that I had a Puegeot 106 with which I blew the head gasket after about 15 months. The dealer said that they would replace it for free, which they did, so top marks there (Appleyard, now there's a plug for ya!)

My biggest surprise though was that the Alfa 156 came second last! That's not going to do any good for the Alfa sales. Also, I never hear anything good nor bad about BMW's - where do they rank?

As the forum's #1 VAG basher I'd be very curious to know how VW scored?

Survey based on 24K replies..... that's an average of 208 replies per model.... you can say you got more than the average number of replies from Ford Escort drivers opposed to Impreza drivers.....

The survey, IMHO, is a heap of ol' sh1te.

Being a Subaru drivers it's nice to see them 1,2 & 8. The survey is not applicable to here, IMHO. They put more importance on servicing the customer than actual car performance and realibility. I too was amazed at the 156 been so bad. A friend of mine has a 155 2.0L t-spark, thats a great car IMO.

Great to see Ford and Vauxhall doing so bad. How about that Astraman, the car your driving is CRAP!! :D I didn't nedd JDR to tell me that.!!!

And i've had two Punto's and no problems so far. It's not so long ago that Top Gear said the Punto was second most reliable car in it's class, behind the Micra.

Nice to see the Vauxhall Sintra covered in ****!!

I thought it the 156 was 9th last?, Anyway it is still a poor show. As for the reliability of the survey I think that it is a little questionable. If you got 5,000 Corolla buyers to respond and who said their car was great and 10 Punto people who said their car suffered problems, what way would that influence the results, can they take this into account and use a correction formula.
I still believe that Jap cars are the most reliable and Italian ones are probably the least, but even though my Alfa Romeo has suffered minor problems I'm not sure I'd actually report them to a survey. It depends on your personal levels of acceptability.Dealer incompetence or unwillingness to help is something that is inexcusable however.
All in all the JD Power survey will improve things for everyone..... eventually!!

Can anyone remember the Top 10 given? I can remember the following -

1. Subaru Legacy
2. Subaru Impreza
3.
4. Toyota Starlet (?)
5. Skoda Felicia (?)
6. Toyota Corolla (?)
7.
8.
9. A MPV (can't remember which one)
10.

Jesus, the old memory isn't what it used to be - I knew I should have written them down. Can anyone complete (correct) the list?

J.

Josh B,
You may think so but its never given me any trouble and I think it gives an enjoyable ride.
They did a survey lately on one of the car programmes I'm not sure which one(Top Gear,Drive or Driven) between Golf,Focus,Megane,Astra and all cars in a similar class and I was delighted to see that the Golf,& Focus got nowhere while the Astra was second.I can't remember who won.
Obviously If I'd a choice I'd buy an Imprezza with all the extras. It's a car I've always fancied but can't afford.I don't like the standard versions.

Astraman, that was a Drive! comparison test and the Focus won it hands down.

As far as the JDR list goes, I remember the Felicia was 3rd, and there was 3 mpv's in the top 10.
