Well I'm happy to see that eForecourt got there first! We'll always try our best to be the originator with such improvements like extra UBB buttons, spell checker (and it works too, unlike elsewhere ;) ), more smilies, avatars etc. The rest can simply lag behind from now on. And just wait, this is only the start for eForecourt. We've more hands coming onboard, we're going to be bigger and better than I've ever imagined. Just you wait and see!

SpyCamera if you had been to the www.motorweb.ie (http://www.motorweb.ie) site today you would have read about MY & my work mates weekend in Mondello. :D :-
Pray tell would you like to share with us your “wild knitting pattern discussion” weekend?? You don’t have to go to bed at 7pm any more, unless your still living at home with your MAMMY ;) You’re a big boy now & you can stay up until 8.00 pm. Just long enough for you to see the latest exciting episode of coronation street.

Josh B, I'd say your idea of a late night is sitting up on a Friday night with the wife watching the Late Late. Sure you probably nod off half way through and all. BTW, I hear from your bro Scrawny that you miss Gaybo something awful. :D

In fairness folks, things are a little dead here at Autopoint II. UBB smilies and cosmetic improvements aside, the only thing that keeps a forum ticking over are contributions from members. This may be attributed in part to the win-at-all-costs nature of this forum and the excessive intrusion from the administrators. Also the sheer number of posts that are made purely to bump up the post count (i.e. the one line, and sometimes just one word, replies to posts, and the badly concealed multiple aliases used by some members). Take a leaf out of Wayne's world - "...they will come" and relax on the 'my forum is better than your forum' mentality. It's a nice site but it badly needs content to make up for the poor discussions, or does it need good discussions to make up for the lack of content?? Anyway if the admins stop suffocating the site it should flourish in time.
Deirdre.
Well Deirdre. If you have any ideas please email them to the eForecourt team.
All I can say for now is watch this space!!! Things are on the up for eForecourt and with members like yourself I'm sure we can develope a site that everyone is happy with.

Whip - I take serious exception to the notion that I could ever be a "bro" to Josh B.
However, I can confirm that since his recent unsuccessful trip to Mondello (didn't quite whip my ass, did you Josh?), he has been forced to re-evaluate his lifestyle - whether this includes resorting to watching Kenny Lite on a Friday remains to be seen. But its whether he'll be able to handle the transition better than he did from "Speed King" to "Sunday driver" last Saturday that will keep me watching!! http://www.eforecourt.com/UBB/smoke.gif :D

Ultimately it boils down to: what does eforecourt offer that MotorWeb doesn't? It's a nice site and all and I wouldn't want to belittle the effort that went it to creating it, but I just don't see the master plan.
I actually think Autopoint is a pretty decent site in principle as it's actually providing content in terms of reviews etc. I think MotorWeb started out with those sort of ideas too, and the forum was just a laid back addition to the site and nobody really cared too much about it one way or the other. I used Motorweb for quite a while before I ever went near the forum, I just didn't see the point in discussing these things with people. But I suppose six hundred odd posts later I did get some enjoyment out of it. Of course, now the main pulling factor with Motorweb is the forum, I never look at any other part of the site in fact, but it has still remained reasonably laid back.
So ultimately what is it that one gets out of a car related site:
1. Lookup used cars. I have never seen anything in Ireland that's useful enough in this regard. It's basically lack of affiliation with garages, probably because dealers in Ireland aren't that clued in to the Internet. To change that you need a lot of marketing muscle to go out to the dealers and sell the idea, because I'm sure they need to be educated about the possibilities that are out there. I wouldn't be surprised if someone like online.ie will do it. Compare with cars.com: you enter your zip code, specify how far you're willing to travel, and it will list a huge number of cars. I have gotten hours of entertainment out of that site (you may call me said), and I know a lot of people who have bought their used car using that site.
2. New car prices. Fairly useful, but ultimately a trip to the dealer is required to get the prices for options etc. I think ultimately companies will have their own web sites where you can build a car to your spec and get the price. Maybe that's a service to provide to computer illiterate Irish car dealers/importers?
3. Reviews. The problem with the reviews on most every site I have ever seen anywhere in the world, is that the reviews are of the quality found in the Irish Times. I.e endless amount of rubbish about the stereo and how big the boot is, and all cars are effectively good. Autopoint.ie has some woefully bad reviews, for instance. I sometimes read them for a laugh. I think a site needs more than that. A site I have started hitting recently that really impresses me is www.atlasf1.com. (http://www.atlasf1.com.) It looks slick and they have a bunch of decent feature article writers. The same can be done on a site like this, but I'm sure it costs a lot of money and I'm not sure I could see any returns from it. I don't get the impression that there is a lot of Internet advertising revenue to be made in this country.
