We have the Limerick and Waterford prices, so here’s a few I've noticed in the capital.
Most petrol stations I pass currently have petrol pitched at 74.3/74.4p per litre, including the popular Statoil petrol station on the quays, and the Texaco petrol station on the Lucan bypass.
There is one exception, however, which appears to be quite expensive, and over the last year or so, has remained quite a bit above the average price. It’s an Esso station in Palmerstown, which currently charge 78.4p per litre.
It doesn't sound like much of a difference, but that’s about 5.5% dearer. Now say you were to buy 40 litres of petrol at both prices. 74.3p for 40 litres would cost you £29.72. 78.4p for 40 litres would cost £31.36, giving a difference of £1.64 per fill.
Now take it one stage further, look at it on a yearly bases. 40 litres is roughly 8.8 gallons, and if you take that an average persons mileage per year is about 12,000 miles, and take an average MPG of say 35MPG, that would mean about 343 gallons of petrol used in a year, or about 1560 litres a year. So 74.3p x 1560 = £1159.08, and 78.4p x 1560 = £1223.04, giving a yearly price difference of £63.96.
Of course the saving would be more substantial for people having a bigger annual mileage, or if their MPG is less than the example 35MPG.
So come on motorists, wake up and watch those pump prices!
