Tey Tim Styless racing. Based in Wales. He's got a web site. Spelling could be wrong. A fella in work has it & I'll ask him tomorrow. TSR is very good I'm told.

Josh thanks for the suggestion but I was thinking of someone in Ireland or attempting the work myself :)

Not only would the currency rate cripple me in getting anything done in the UK I'd prefer to get her running myself .. but I know I'm not going to be able to do it all myself .. so far I reckon she needs a full bare metal respray .. theres some small spots of rust no major panel replacements though,... it will needa gearbox rebuild or a new box .. and a probably a new clutch... oh and and engine rebuild :)

Dearest cancel any idea you had about going out between now and next summer :)

I suppose you’ll have to source the parts yourself first. First stop? Breakers yard for cheap second hand parts. IMHO there should be loads of cheap(ish) parts floating around at the moment due to the record number of new cars purchased this year so far and the fairly generous scrappage schemes available from car manufacturers. Now sourcing reliable used parts that won’t let you down is another story altogether

Ah I can see it now, Golf GTi rebuild, Junior's Journal :D

well theres a few good points about the car it can take any MK I parts plus anything up as far as 1987 MK II ..and she'll run on Unleaded if I adjust the timing hopefully

I think I might run a journal as well I'll let you know If I get round to getting my webspace sorted...

Junior,

I'd say that scrappies are the way to go. (Well I would have done it that way anyway). Just make sure everything works OK before you leave the yard. (hard I know, but it will be worth it in the long run)

The best thing to do is to buy a haynes manual & you can do everything yourself!!

The website for Tim Styles Racing is http://www.tsr-performance.com - While his work is meant to be top notch, given exchange rates I doubt very much it would be worth it.

I dont know if she will run on unleaded OK - if it starts
to pink - you might have to get the valve seats hardened.

A really nice conversion to the MK1's is a 16v or G60. (the latter bieng better!) The G60 is light & can easily be modded to 200bhp

I reccommend you completely strip the car down, Inside & out. Buy yourself a couple of sheets of sandpaper, some fiberglass & filler and prepare the car yourself. Then get it professionally sprayed, saving yourself about £500 for a couple of days/evenings work!!

Right lads instead of nattering on here about it the whole time I've created a bit of a page that can be found at http://juniorsweb.hypermart.net/golf now it's not all together yet but for a days work it ain't all that bad :)

I've got onto the previous owner and he's got a manual for her so he's to send that on to me ...otherwise all is quiet ... I'm going to be taking Brians advice and stripping her down meself for the bare metal respray ... one question do you think it would be expensive to get her sealed when shes being resprayed ??
