"OK buy the puny one with more goodies then."
"I'd be worried that 1.6 will be way to underpowered for the size of the car"
"So if anyone buys one make sure you don't have any passengers while over taking"

I'm sick http://www.eforecourt.com/UBB/sick.gif of all these derogatory remarks from people who own more powerful cars themselves; I'm just so frustrated I'm ready to burst http://www.eforecourt.com/UBB/angryfire.gif. I'll win that lotto jackpot yet :), and I'll buy a 400+ BHP M5, then I'll ridicule all your little puny engined pieces of sh1te to death http://www.eforecourt.com/UBB/evil.gif You have been warned!

What you forgot to add to this, "then you'll wake up."

All this stuff about big alloys, spoilers, etc. is crap, guys. It doesn't matter if it's a BMW or Alfa with a bodykit or Toyota Starlet with a Kenwood sticker in the back window. The car aint gonna go any faster.

What do you want - a mobile pose-pouch or a car with performance or low deperciation ... etc.

Sean you've mist the point. I have already a fast car ( Honda Prelude 2.2i ) but I have to come in and out of town now in bumper to bumper traffic everyday. I want a car that looks good and that has a bit of comfort.

Ahhh, and oops! Then I'd say get a car that *doesn't* have a sports/handling etc. pack and *doesn't* have dustbin lid size alloys. For short hops, town traffic and conditions I reckon an Audi would be more comfortable and robust than an Alfa.

Maybe my approach is too practical?

But there's also another aspect Sean. Sounds like Phil wants a good looking motor to impress the women http://www.eforecourt.com/UBB/groovy.gif. I fear that an Audi would simply put them to sleep http://www.eforecourt.com/UBB/sleep.gif.

Ah Whippy, I think you've have hit the nail on the head. I was thinking of A4 1.8 but from reading the replies on this forum I have decided to go for the ALFA 156 1.8 sports pack 3. :D

All that's left is the test drive.

What a great double act ye are, Phil & Whiplash. Will you buy a lime green car if I tell you to??

Deirdre.

Deirdre, I hear from the grape vine that you are a bit of a BMW freak. I was interested in getting a BMW, but you don't seem to get alot for the money. The horse power is low compared to other cars in its class. :(

As a BMW driver, what do you find pleasing about the BMW. :)

Eh, everything.

Sounds like you boys would be better off with a nice Corolla, with Sport Pack 3 of course.

Deirdre.

Well I suppose the Corolla is more reliable then a BMW, but even if I was a retired 70+ old age pensioner sporting my pipe and slippers I wouldn’t touch one with a barge pole http://www.eforecourt.com/UBB/sick.gif. Anyways I think you’d better go and lock your office Deirdre as the sun is shinning and you wouldn’t want to miss those rays considering you own a convertible and all

You mean she can go out into the daylight. I thought that vampires only moved around at night. I'm impressed. From now on I will call you Daywalker. :D

I think there are two schools of thought here. The Sub has great acceleration and handling, but most normal folk can't afford to insure it privately.Apart from the excellent seats the rest of the interior is pure cheap & nasty crap. It's exterior is love or hate....I love it....but not as much as a 156.
I would never, ever, ever, buy a standard 156 they look plain once the SP3 is beside it. So get the 1.8 with the kit and enjoy. By the way all 156s' take a while to "run in" and liven up,they are very tight when new.Give it about 10k and you will feel the VVT kick in.The Superchip livens up performance and if fitted to the 1.8 you'd probably end up with close to the same power anyway. The 1.8 isn't as sweet as the 2.0 and lacks some of its response, actually I can't remember if the 1.8 has the twin counter rotating balancer shafts of the 2.0 which make it even sweeter when revved.
Personally I'll be looking for a 2.5 V6, such a charismatic engine, with the pukka Alfa Romeo 17" alloys lowered suspension (which has been available from launch) sports pack 3 but WITHOUT the rear spoiler or front air dam. Colour won't be silver but apart from that...don't know!!

Lads, just to let you know that I have decided to go for a 98 BMW 320i car instead of the ALFA 156 1.8.

Thanks for all your help.

Cheers Phil.
