Guys 'n' Gals ,
As I am moving to Dublin in the next month as some may already know, I've been thinking of selling my Golf and buying something different for in or around 1 - 2 grand as a bit of a run around. Anyways yesterday I was looking at a 480 Turbo ... admittly I dibn't get a good look at her as in service book sit in or drive <yet> but for a 90 car with a 2 year NCT Test done does anyone thing I'm off my head ... I can't find any info on the car on the net so far but I have found this impressive site http://www.volvocars.volvo.ie/
Any info on the car or any experiences with one appreciated ...

When I used to sell cars a few years ago I sold two second hand 480 Turbos in quick succession. Both came back to me within weeks with slipping clutches, which I didn't notice at the time I sold them.Just make sure the clutch feels 100% and ask if its ever been changed, if it hasn't the bargain on putting one in shortly!!.

A Volvo 480 Turbo, what's that like performance wise compared to your Golf? If you're going to be driving around Dublin city during rush hour traffic, then I'd recommend that you have some comfort features at hand! (I like the beer cooler feature in the new Fabia - nice one Skoda!)

Sounds like a good deal to me, especially with the fact that it has already received its NCT certificate. I know its no guarantee that its not going to break down, but at least it should be structurally intact and safe, and you won't have to test it again yourself for another 2 years. The only thing would be the turbo though - how long does a turbo usually last without packing in?
Otherwise it sounds like a good buy.
Junior do you enjoy driving tanks? Thank GOD Volvo have been show the curve. At least the new Volvos have a better shape. Lots of plastic in side though. Not my number one car.

Phil the 480 could never be described as a tank .... A Wedge yes quite possibly .. but a tank no never ... Anyways the slab in the boot of the Golf always made it arse happy so it was quite nice to handle ..Oh Also Phoned insurance company and they are quoting another 700 and odd quid to chenge from a 1.4 97 golf to 1.8 Turbo Volvo .. not bad really ..
