An innovative feature, but who's the innovator?

While driving behind a new VW Beetle yesterday evening, I just happened to notice a small detail that reminded me of an Alfa.

The VW sign on the back rotates upwards to reveal the boot lock, exactly the same as on an Alfa!

Does anyone know where this design feature originates?

Well I reckoned Alfa used it before VW, but I was wondering did any other Car Manufacturer have it before Alfa, or is it yet another notch on Alfa's belt? ;)
