I just thought you like to know that the Phoenix consortium has managed to buy Rover off BMW for a nominal fee of £10! (Yes, for £10, your eyes don't deceive you!)

I saw an interview on TV this morning with Europe GM of Ford, seems their future isn't looking great in Britain either. 3,000 jobs to be lost!!!!!! Whats the story with the car industry in the UK, is it just too expensive to manufacture there? I believe assembly is also much slower in the UK that their plants elsewhere...!!!! Doesn't reflect well on the abilities of the British workforce.

I believe Chelesa FC was sold for a pound .. I can't remember but I think Tony O'Reilly bought a company for a 1p .. it's the fact that the new company or owners take on board the fact that will honour all outstanding debts ...

I believe that the Phoenix deal will be worse for the Rover workers in the long term. They promise less layoffs and this looks great to the employee, but if BMW couldn’t work it then I certainly don’t see how it can be turned around without very radical measures. The Alchemy deal would have been a harsh blow in the short term to the Rover wrokforce, but IMHO would have been the better solution in the long term. I suppose BMW bowed to the pressure generated by the British public and went for the ‘friendliest’ solution. Now the British public will slowly forgive BMW and anything that goes belly-up with Rover from now on is the fault of the Phoenix consortium.
