Hi Guys,

A friend of mine is looking to buy a 98 Impreza 2.0 turbo. He has a full license for the last 10 years but has only been the main driver for the last 3 of the 10. It seems that he getting crazy quotes from the insurance companies.

Can anyone out there in the land of eForecourt suggest a insurance company to try and also give him a ball park figure for what he should be aiming for while talking to them.

Cheers Phil.

I drive an 1.6 GL Impreza. My insurance rose from £400 last year to £580. I got it back to £549 for full copm, my wife driving it, 40% no cliaims, clean license, no tickets, convictions etc.. There has been a major hike in insurance premiums this year.

At only 27 years old and 3 years NCB this guy's going to get a roasting if he's thinking of the Impreza 2.0 Turbo. I mean you don't get to drive a car that does 0-60 in about six and a half seconds for peanuts in this country. Expect to pay dearly for the pleasure, its a fact of life :( .

Being under 30 and not having a full no claims bonus, this guy doesn’t stand a chance with a 2.0Turbo Scooby. What about getting his wife (is he married?) to buy/insure the car and he can drive it as a named driver? On second thoughts that might be a bad idea - maybe he’d never get it back off her! :D

Either he pays through the nose now, or buys a small sensible car and waits till he has a full NCB and is over 30. He could always buy the 1.6 version like Josh B above, but with a 0-60 of about twice the time of the 2.0T, he certainly won’t be experiencing blistering fast excitement with that version now will he :p . I don’t see any other way out I’m afraid :( .

To get a quote I normally like to have the following :

How much the cars worth ?
Garaged ?
Location ?
Any Endorsments ?
Any Outstanding cases ?

He's over 25 which is a good start
He's only got 3 years NCB which isn't good
Right has he been a named driver .. the insurance company he is with should give hom some credit .. my broker did .. nuffin like a NCB but they gave me some credit

I can give you the number of a few places but they are south east based ..

mail me if you think it might be worth it ..

If your friend has one of a the group scheme occupations that Glennon Insurance brokers run (teachers, engineers etc.) he has some hope. I insured my Impreza Turbo for £950 with a somewhat less than spick and span claims record, but sadly I am a little older than your friend.
