While away in France I noticed an interesting detail on the road (motorway) speeds. The speed limit was 100kph. However, the speed signs also has a rain cloud and a speed limit of 70kph. Obviously this makes sense reducing the speed limit when road conditions deteriorate.
Should a similar measure be taken in Ireland? Reduce the speed limit in accordance with road conditions. Come to think of it, it shouldn’t be too complicated to use some sort of roadside device that can tell the current weather conditions, and be connected up to electrical speed limit signs. This device could then tell if the road was wet or even slippy due to very low temperatures and lower the speed limit automatically.
Would such variable speed limits work over here, even the two speed normal/wet speed limits?
