Can I get an 80cc bike, drive it for a month and then take a Driving Test in the North (providing I pass) to allow me to get a 400cc??
A mate told me that I can, but I'd like to know for sure!

Yeah, if you get a UK licence you can swap it for a full Irish licence (with no restrictions) or maybe you could even use the UK licence here without exchanging, I think you can actuallly...

Alternatively, bin the idea of an 80cc bike and pick up a 125. If your commute is not motorway based a 125 would manage it fine. You can drive that right now with a full car licence.
